Haaland, who reportedly imports Norwegian salmon to Manchester for his private chef, has long been an advocate for the benefits of seafood.

Erling Braut Haaland, one of Norway’s most celebrated football stars, is lending his support to a new campaign encouraging Norwegians to eat more seafood.

Haaland, an ambassador for Godfisk.no, is promoting the message that eating at least 400 grams of seafood per week is essential for a healthy lifestyle.

The campaign aligns with new dietary guidelines introduced by the Norwegian government on August 15, which recommend a weekly seafood intake of 300-450 grams. The aim is to improve public health through increased consumption of fish, particularly fatty varieties rich in omega-3.

Haaland, who reportedly imports Norwegian salmon for his personal use, and has close to 40 million followers on Instagram, has long been an advocate for the benefits of seafood. “I’ve been eating fish and shellfish since I was a child, and it’s still one of my favorite things,” Haaland said.

Norwegian health officials, including Linda Granlund, Director at the Norwegian Directorate of Health, emphasize the importance of seafood for reducing the risk of heart disease and supporting brain health. Granlund added, “We know that children and young people are influenced by their role models, and it’s great to see Haaland leading by example.”

As an elite athlete, Haaland’s focus on nutrition has been echoed by Kristin Lundanes Jonvik, a clinical nutritionist. She noted that omega-3 fatty acids, primarily found in fish, are crucial for muscle recovery and overall performance. “Top athletes like Haaland have realized the importance of diet in recent years, and seafood is a key part of that,” Jonvik said.

The campaign aims to inspire more Norwegians, particularly the younger generation, to increase their seafood consumption, helping reverse a trend where many eat more sweets than fish.
