Fiizk appoints new Chief Technology Officer from SINTEF Ocean
Fiizk has announced the appointment of Jan Tore Fagertun, former research director at SINTEF Ocean, as its new Chief Technology Officer. The company revealed the hire in a press release on Monday.
“Jan Tore is what you’d call a ‘star signing’ in football. His specialized expertise in aquaculture structures is unique and will benefit both our customers and Fiizk,” said CEO Jan Erik Kvingedal.
Fagertun brings nearly 30 years of experience in aquaculture and oil and gas industries. At SINTEF Ocean, he led research into aquaculture construction safety and digital solutions for future aquaculture systems, including submerged and closed facilities. He has also worked on aquaculture projects such as Havfarm for Nordlaks and FjordMAX for Salaks during his tenure at NSK Ship Design.
At Fiizk, Fagertun will oversee the company’s technology and product strategy, as well as its development programs for closed farming systems.
“I strongly believe that closed fish farming will play a central role in the future of aquaculture and food production systems,” Fagertun stated. “Closed systems can better prevent lice, parasites, and diseases, provide stable growth environments, and enable circular processes through waste collection. I am eager to contribute to this development at Fiizk, which shares my ambitions.”
Fiizk recently secured a contract to deliver two of its closed “Protectus” pens, each with a circumference of 156 meters and a volume of 30,000 cubic meters. The company is focusing exclusively on closed and semi-closed systems, along with related software, maintenance, and services following its restructuring.
