Polish salmon processor Suempol has announced the acquisition of Hull, UK-based seafood-processing company Copernus Fresh Fish.

The acquisition, aimed at bolstering its presence in the UK market and expanding its portfolio of value-added products, grants Suempol 100% ownership of Copernus.

Copernus, previously one of the largest independent, family-owned seafood processors in the UK, counts Lidl among its key clients.

In a statement on LinkedIn, Suempol expressed optimism about the acquisition, noting that it will not only strengthen its market presence but also allow the company to expand its product offerings with new species, such as cod and haddock, enhancing its range for customers.

Both companies have long-standing supply relationships with Lidl, and the transaction will provide Suempol with a significant platform to grow its presence in the UK, a critical market for chilled seafood.
