Sushi consumption has been boosted across homes in Spain, reports Revista Aral.

The numbers were collated by the Spanish Association of Prepared Dishes Manufacturers (Asefapre).

In 2020, 2,715 tonnes of prepared sushi were consumed in Spanish homes, representing a growth of 48 per-cent over three years.

“The increase in time at home has boosted the replication in our homes of the experiences that were previously enjoyed in the restaurant and sushi has adapted perfectly to this new situation since, in addition to providing an exotic touch to the food, it is a comfortable and simple menu, as well as being a particularly healthy and nutritious dish”, said Álvaro Aguilar, secretary-general of Asefapre.

Mowi and Leroy Processing Spain are major sushi suppliers to the Spanish market, with the latter supplying to the retail giant Mercadona. Mowi is Lidl Spain’s sushi supplier.
