Infectious salmon anemia (ISA) is suspected at Lerøy Midt’s facility at Storskogøya in Hitra municipality in Norway according to a report from the Norwegian Food Safety Authority.
Lerøy Midt notified the authority of the suspicion on 24 June, following PCR analysis results from site samples. The Norwegian Food Safety Authority plans to conduct an immediate inspection and take follow-up samples to confirm the presence of ISA, which will be analyzed by the Norwegian Veterinary Institute.
To prevent potential spread, restrictions have been imposed on the facility, including a ban on moving fish without special permission. If ISA is confirmed, the Norwegian Food Safety Authority may order the emptying of the site, either partially or entirely.
