Swiss land-based salmon farm founder eyeing up Belgium for next project

Cold Water wants to produce 1,200 tonnes of smoked salmon a year.

L’Avenir reports that a new land-based project is on the cards. A company has registered its intention to construct a combined farm/processing facility at East Belgium Park, Baelen.

The new company Cold Water was founded by the Brit Julian Connor, writes the publication. The same name as the founder of Swiss Alpine Fish (Swiss Lachs).

Switzerland’s only land based salmon farm is in the unlikely location in the Alps in Lostallo. It farms around 333 tonnes of fish. 80 per-cent of it is sold fresh, while the rest is smoked in-house.

SalmonBusiness has contacted Connor to confirm the project.
