Alsaker Fjordbruk headquarters destroyed by fire.
A devastating fire has destroyed the new headquarters of Norwegian salmon farming company Alsaker Fjordbruk, located at Alsaker Brygge in Tysnes. The fire broke out on Saturday, reducing most of the newly completed administrative complex to ashes.
In a public statement posted on Sunday, company owner Gerhard Meidell Alsaker described the incident as “the blackest day in the family in 87 years,” adding that Monday would be “a true blue Monday” in the aftermath.
The building had been under planning and construction since 2017, and was brought into use in late October 2024. Final completion was scheduled for Easter 2025.
Despite early detection, efforts to contain the blaze were unsuccessful. A large-scale response effort included fire crews and equipment from Tysnes, Bjørnefjorden, Ølve, and Husnes, as well as vessels with firefighting capabilities from Fjordbruk Service, Tronds Marine Service, Ambulance boat Rosedoktoren, and Bukser og Berging’s vessels Server and Boxer. Emergency services, contractors, suppliers, and company employees all took part in firefighting and salvage efforts.
Alsaker extended thanks to all who contributed, including the person who alerted emergency services and notified the Tysnes Chamber Choir, who had been rehearsing in the building’s cafeteria at the time.
Alsaker Fjordbruk is one of Norway’s largest privately owned salmon farming companies. The destruction of its administrative centre represents a significant operational disruption and a symbolic loss for a company that has played a central role in Norwegian aquaculture.
