The salmon price falls to a new annual low

Now it’s the buyer’s market.

The salmon price is under heavy pressure, and falls to it’s lowest level in 2020. This is also in line with the normal seasonal pattern for the salmon price.

“There is increasing volume and pressure on prices. 2-3 kroner (EUR 0.2-0.3) down,” said a trader to iLaks.[factbox]

“Yes, it is in that area there,” said another.

Lots of fish
For the eighth week in a row, the average price will be between four and five euros per kilogram.

“It is no doubt that there is too much fish,” said an exporter. “Customers are relaxed. They do not need fish. They only take it in to freeze it at their own expense. Everyone has lots of fish available.”

“But they can take an extra truck if they get the right price. If they do not get the right price, they just say no thank you. It is completely impossible to get the price up,” he said.

Under pressure
He is not optimistic on behalf of the salmon price in the coming weeks.

“There will be pressure for a while ahead. It’s in the cards.”
