Lerøy Reports salmon escape in Møre og Romsdal.
A salmon escape has been reported at Lerøy Midt’s Sandholmane site in Aukra, Møre og Romsdal, according to the Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries.
The incident, which was reported by Lerøy Midt on Sunday, involved a significant tear in a net identified during post-storm inspections. The average size of the escaped fish is slightly over one kilogram, but the exact number of escaped salmon remains unclear.
Lerøy Midt has deployed recapture nets at the site as part of its response. The Directorate of Fisheries confirmed it will conduct follow-up inspections in line with standard procedures. The agency has also requested public assistance, encouraging local fishers to report any sightings or catches of escaped farmed salmon and to include photos to aid in assessing the scope and spread of the incident.
“Tips will help us evaluate the extent of the escape and the distribution of the escaped fish,” the Directorate stated, reminding the public to adhere to local fishing regulations when capturing salmon in the area.
