Investigations of alleged competition-regulating behaviour are initiated at a number of processing plants.

Grieg Seafood stated today that the company’s offices in Shetland were inspected on Tuesday. Now, competitor Mowi has also confirmed an unexpected visit by the EU competition authorities.

“We have had a visit from the EU Commission at two factories today – Rosyth in Scotland and Sterk in the Netherlands,” said Mowi’s communications director Ola Helge Hjetland to SalmonBusiness.

“We have nothing to hide, and are now working with the Commission to ensure that they get their job done in a good way,” said Hjetland.

A spokesperson for Scottish Sea Farms has confirmed to SalmonBusiness with the following: “We can confirm that we, like other Norwegian-owned companies in Scotland, have been visited by EC officials and are cooperating fully.
