Norway exported 125,521 tonnes of salmon worth NOK 10.8 billion ($993 million) in August.

The UK emerged as the strongest growth market for Norwegian seafood exports in August, with a value increase of NOK 161 million ($14.8 million), or 24%, compared to the same month in 2023.

Export volume to the UK also saw a rise, reaching 13,077 tonnes, an increase of 9% from last year.

Norway exported 125,521 tonnes of salmon worth NOK 10.8 billion ($993 million) in August. This represents a value increase of NOK 374 million ($34.4 million), or 4%, and a volume growth of 3% compared to the same month last year. Germany saw the largest increase in salmon export value, growing by NOK 133 million ($12.2 million), or 37%, with volumes up 26%.

In total, Norwegian seafood was exported to 109 countries in August, five fewer than in August 2023.

The largest markets were Poland, Denmark, and the USA, with Poland, the USA, and Denmark also being the top destinations for Norwegian salmon.

Despite the record-breaking export month for Norwegian salmon, the market outlook remains uncertain.

“We are seeing a weakening of import values in local currencies in several countries. A lower import price in 2024 has not been offset by corresponding volume growth in key markets such as the USA, China, and Thailand,” said Paul Aandahl, Seafood Analyst at the Norwegian Seafood Council.
