Vičiūnai Group announces €100 million salmon processing facility in Lithuania.
Vičiūnai Group has unveiled plans to build a €100 million salmon processing complex in Plungė, Lithuania, marking the company’s largest investment to date, the company has announced on LinkedIn.
The facility, which will span over 16,000 square metres—more than four times the size of the group’s current operations in the area—is expected to increase salmon and salmonid processing volumes from 18,000 to 50,000 tonnes annually. Once fully operational, the plant could generate annual revenues of up to €500 million, according to the company.
More than 95 percent of the production will be destined for export markets, including Western Europe and the United States.

Vičiūnai Group board member Dainius Matijošaitis said the project reflects a dual focus on innovation and sustainability. The facility will include a 1.5 MW rooftop solar power plant, eliminate the use of natural gas in production processes, and incorporate advanced automation and robotics to reduce manual labour. Excess energy will be repurposed for heating facilities and water.
The company, which operates under the Vičiūnai ir partneriai (VIP) entity in Lithuania, aims to position itself among the top five salmon processors in Europe through this expansion.
Construction is now underway adjacent to Vičiūnai’s existing manufacturing and logistics hub in Plungė. Once at full capacity, the plant is expected to employ approximately 900 people.
