Netflix is set to premiere its latest Norwegian dramedy, “Billionaire Island,” on September 12, marking a return collaboration with creators Anne Bjørnstad and Eilif Skodvin, known for their work on the hit series “Lilyhammer.”
The series, shot on the island of Frøya in Trøndelag, Norway, offers a humorous take on the country’s thriving fish farming industry.
“Billionaire Island” centers around the ruthless owner of a Norwegian fish farming company, played by Trine Wiggen, who schemes to execute a hostile takeover of her local rival in a bid to become the world’s largest salmon producer. The show explores the colorful characters and high-stakes world of Norway’s salmon billionaires, a sector that has made many Norwegians extremely wealthy.
The series features a star-studded cast, including Trine Wiggen, Svein Roger Karlsen, Ragne Grande, and Kåre Conradi. It is directed by Marit Moum Aune and produced by Rubicon.
Anne Bjørnstad and Eilif Skodvin expressed their excitement about reuniting with Netflix:
“It is fantastic to be reunited with Netflix on this series which deals with one of the newer marine creatures in Norway – the salmon billionaire. The fish farming industry has made many Norwegians very rich and is a veritable treasure trove of colorful characters and exciting stories. We can’t wait to share Billionaire Island with the audience.”
