For the seventh consecutive year, Scottish Sea Farms will participate in the Marine Conservation Society’s (MCS) Great British Beach Clean.

This year’s effort will include an additional benefit for local communities, with each participating team receiving a £100 Heart of the Community donation for the local cause of their choice.

Running from September 20 to 29, the company’s contribution to the event is set to be its largest yet, with 16 beach cleans registered across Shetland, Orkney, and the Scottish mainland.

Three of the events in the Highlands will be open to the public, encouraging community involvement.

Kishorn Farm Manager Iain Flack, leading one of the cleanups on September 21, emphasized the farm team’s commitment to maintaining the local environment. “We are part of the local community, and most of the team live nearby, so it’s only natural that we want to look after it,” Flack said.

In line with the MCS initiative, each team will document the type and volume of debris collected from a 100-meter stretch of shoreline, contributing data to a national database. Previous beach clean efforts have uncovered significant amounts of plastic, polystyrene, metal, and other materials.

Jessica Taylor-McKaig, Scottish Sea Farms’ Heart of the Community Coordinator, noted that the inclusion of the £100 donation incentive has boosted participation. “The added donation to local causes has driven up registrations, delivering double the benefit to communities,” she said.
