World’s largest meat processor eyes up salmon farmer for potential acquisition

Brazilian giant JBS believed to making efforts to move in efforts on Huon Aquaculture.

 
The Australian reports that global meat processor JBS has set its sights on Tasmanian salmon producer Huon Aquaculture.

JBS Foods has operations in the United States, Australia, Canada, Europe, Mexico, New Zealand and the UK. It is the biggest meat processing company by sales.

JBS is among one of the groups considering an acquisition and final bids are due on July 27. A private equity firm is also looking.

In February, after bruising COVID hit half-year report, Huon initiated a strategic review.

Andrew Forrest, one of Australia’s richest people, spent AUD 20 million (EUR 12.6 million) for a 7.33 per-cent stake in Huon Aquaculture in June.

Seara, part of the JBS Group, debuted in the seafood market this year, with a salmon range for the Brazilian market.
