Listeria recall was “precautionary measure” say Mowi

Tests revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in Kritsen smoked salmon sold at French supermarkets.

A few days ago SalmonBusiness reported a third recall in as many months of smoked salmon products made by Mowi (formally Marine Harvest).

French retailers Carrefour and Auchan promptly made an announcement to consumers to return the packets of Scottish and Irish smoked salmon.

Margreet van Harn, Communication Director for Mowi (Western Europe), told SalmonBusiness in an email that the recall was a “precautionary measure.”

“After the first recall, we reinforced and intensified our controls, analyses and precautionary measures. This last recall was taken as a precautionary measure, after a laboratory analysis done at the end of shelf life and in a ‘worst case scenario’ (a cold chain break) showed presence of Listeria monocytogenes. In order to be on the safe side we decided to the recall,” she added.
